child labor

The temple was so dirty - covered in filth. We made our boys go and scrub it down. They did an amazing job. Left it sparkling. Well, that's not completely true...

The temple district we belong to is the Louisville Kentucky Temple District, and so we drove down one Saturday last month to clean the temple grounds. (Members of our church volunteer to take care of most of the ground work and inside cleaning of the temples, which is amazing, because if you have ever seen one of our temples, they are incredibly beautiful and immaculately kept. Our temples never get too dirty, because they are always being cleaned.) The boys and I washed down all the hand rails, light posts, and tops of the marble walls. Matthias dead-headed all of the flowers and pulled out overgrown ground cover.

The Louisville, Kentucky Temple at night

A little blip of a conversation Matthias and I had while trying to figure out what to say in this post:

Me: My body is a temple.
Matthias: I know. I love to see the temple.

Oh, thank goodness for Matthias-he is such a hoot! I think you could come up with about four or five lessons from cleaning the temple with your boys. I hope one day (SOON) to come and see the Louisville, Kentucky Temple. I really miss you all so much if you stay put for this whole school year we'll come early next year. Maybe even over the semester break.

Good for you guys! I never thought of bringing kids since they wouldn't be as "helpful"... but what a great lesson to learn, and who doesn't love to SCRUB!

And apparently you two need to get yourselves a room!

What great things you are teaching your kids already - to love to serve, and to love and respect the temple. They are very adorable little helpers. It looks like Beckham has his toy of the day clutched in his hand while cleaning. What a guy !
