race for the cure: SLC

Old news for all of my family members, but I wanted to document the first ever annual Jones family tradition. (We are hoping to make it a tradition at least.) My brother, Eric, organized a family team for the Race for the Cure that took place last Saturday. My grandma Jones had breast cancer and passed away about 3 years ago, and so we all listed her name on the pink "In Memory of:" tag on our backs. Several things stuck out to me during the race: first, it wasn't really a race, but more of a social event, in which my injured knee quite enjoyed. I had a grand old time talking with my mom and aunt Margo for 45 minutes during our 5K walk. Second, the view of strength in numbers was awe inspiring as well as seeing the cancer survivors, some without hair. There were around 16,000 in attendance and we were somewhere in the middle. The first part of the course was uphill, so the view of a 5 lane road packed side to side with supporters was amazing. Third, seeing many pink "In Memory of my Mom, or my Wife" tags as well as "In Celebration of MYSELF" was overwhelming. I wanted to cry for those whose moms and wives had passed and high five those who had survived. I got goose bumpy several times seeing some amazing women. And fourth, being with family to support a cause as well remember grandma was simply fun. I love being with my family.
